VCR

Remember VCR’s?

A few more years and they will be all but a very distant memory…

And all I will have left is the hundreds of VHS tapes of every Disney Movie ever made that we bought for our kids over the years….

VCR’s didn’t really get into mainstream use until I was in High School.

I remember the first time we rented a VCR from a store at the mall. The thing came in a suitcase, was as big as a huge typewriter, and weighed a ton. This also started us on the concept of “renting” movies for the first time. I remember that first time we rented the VCR for 24hrs and as a whole, our family rented about 30 movies, having no concept that it was virtually impossible to watch that many movies in one day.

I remember well the first movie we watched on a VCR…..”Blade Runner” starring Harrison Ford….

Within months, VCR’s had exploded and everyone in the country just had to own one….though they were ridiculously expensive for that time….

I remember buying my own first VCR after I got out of High School and was elated when I was able to find a 4-head VCR on sale for only $300.

As we all remember, a decade later or so, you could get a VCR for about $30 at any Wal-Mart and people had the machines in every room of the house.

As we sit now, my dear DVD players are heading down that road to extinction, much like the VCR….and then what am I going to do with the cabinets full of every Disney DVD that we have bought the kids to replace the Disney VHS tapes?????

Sometimes innovation sucks!
