Patrick Hernandez

Another One-Hit Wonder, French singer Patrick Hernandez had his one and only US hit in 1979 with the disco classic “Born to be Alive“.

The song reached #16 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the Disco charts.

Many remember the song from its use in the 1997 Chevy Chase movie “Vegas Vacation” in which the song played as the Griswold family toured Las Vegas in a Limo.

While touring the US in support of this song, one of his backup dancers was then unknown Madonna.

This guy looked like someone had pulled Billy Joel and Mr. Bean’s love-child son out of High School and he was not exactly proficient in the art of lip synching. I’ll cut him some slack I guess in that he was French, singing in English, and the song was real catchy.

I have a huge HUGE crush on the 1979 Patrick! Who cares that he can’t dance or lip synch? He’s adorable and I can’t dance either.
