A tale of murder, lust, greed, revenge, and seafood.
One of my favorite movie comedies of All-Time, at least in my book.
British Humor is something that you seem to either love or hate. I love British humor! Of course, being subjected to it on a daily basis while living in England for 3 years tends to help your appreciation for the genius that is British Comedy.
A Fish Called Wanda was released in 1988.
It starred:
John Cleese – “Archibald Archie Leach”
Kevin Kline – “Otto Don’t call me stupid! West”
Jaime Lee Curtis – “Wanda Gershwitz”
Michael Palin – “K-K-K-K-Ken P-P-P-P-Pile”
If you are a fan of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and the many Monty Python films, you undoubdtedly loved “A Fish called Wanda“.
John Cleese co-wrote the screenplay and was also an uncredited co-director on the film.
Kevin Kline, known mainly for dramatic roles, won a Best Support Actor Academy Award for his role as Otto, one of the few instances where the Oscars have recognized a performance in a film comedy.
John Cleese was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Wanda: To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people. I’ve known sheep who could outwit you. I’ve worn dresses with higher IQs, but you think you’re an intellectual, don’t you, ape?
Otto: Apes don’t read philosophy.
Wanda: Yes they do, Otto, they just don’t understand it.
I still laugh my idiot head off every time I see this movie. It is still a comedy classic!
