Actor Gedde Watanabe has been in over two dozen Films and appeared on over two dozen Television series, yet he is still best remembered as English-Language Challenged Exchange Student Long Duk Dong in the classic 1984 Comedy “Sixteen Candles“.

He was born Gary Watanabe in 1955 in Ogden, Utah.

Yes folks, the ‘Donger” is actually from Utah!

His acting roles have mostly been stereotypical Asian roles requiring thick accents. He surprised the cast and crew of “Sixteen Candles” after filming was complete by thanking them in his normal “American” voice. He had used the thick Asian accent used by Long Duk Dong throughout the making of the film and everyone assumed he was actually Asian.
