Flashback to 1985
Comedian/Actor Eddie Murphy, in the midst of prolonged and bitter contract negotiations with his Movie Studio on whether or not he will star in “Beverly Hills Cop 12“, demands that the Studio pay for him to record a music album, wanting to beat to the charts, Miami Vice star Don Johnson, who was rumored to be working on his own debut album at the time….
Eddie Murphy won the battle and the result gave us “Party all the Time“, a hit single that rose all the way to #2 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in 1985.
Sadly, the song did NOT win the Grammy Award for Best Song…….
Personally, I wish he had recorded his version of “Hot Tub“, singing as James Brown, that he made famous on Saturday Night Live.
“Party all the Time” is one of those songs that sends you screaming out of the house in terror when you first hear it come on….because you just know that the chorus will be stuck in your brain for days to come…..
I heard it myself just the other day and soon found myself standing over the stove, cooking dinner, happily mumbling “My Girl wants to party all the time…party all the time…..party all the tiiiiiiiimmmmmeee”. I had to pour hot grease over my head to snap myself out of the trance….
Not to be outdone by Music Legend Don Johnson, Eddie Murphy also managed to sneak onto the charts again in 1989 with his hit “Put your mouth on me” which reached #27 on the Billboard Charts.
So, the music world is left with Don Johnson, Two-Hit Wonder….AND….Eddie Murphy, Two-Hit Wonder….
The good folks at The Starland Vocal Band, who gave us the classic “Afternoon Delight” could not give us a follow-up hit, but Don and Eddie somehow managed to….

(I don’t know the actual circumstances behind Eddie Murphy and the making of his album, I sorta made that part up….I am sure the fact that Eddie Murphy was worth tens of millions of dollars and could record albums every day of the week if he so chose to had nothing to do with his making his album…I will shut up now…..My girl wants to party all the time…party all the time…pa Aaaaarrrggggggg!!!)
Years ago we were waiting in line for the Matterhorn at Disneyland. As we approached our sled, we heard a voice ask “Can we go again?” to which the lederhosen wearing pimply faced attendant said “sure!”
Well, it was Eddier Murphy. The butthead and his girlfriend took my sled.
