Martika

Martika was born Marta Marrero in Whittier, Ca in 1969.

Her first album, “Martika“, was released in 1988 and spawned the hit single “Toy Soldiers” which reached #1 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in 1989.

The album also produced the single “I Feel the Earth Move” which peaked at #25 on the Billboard charts in 1989. That song was a remake of a Carole King hit from the 1970′s.

Martika’s second album was released in 1991 and spawned the #10 hit “Love…Thy Will Be Done“.

Martika was a former child actress and was a cast member of the children’s show “Kids Incorporated“.

The backing vocal chorus on “Toy Soldiers” is composed of many of her former “Kids Incorporated” cast mates, including Jennifer Love Hewitt and Stacy Ferguson, now known as “Fergie” from The Black Eyed Peas.

In 2004, Rapper Eminem sampled a portion of “Toy Soldiers” on his single “Like Toy Soldiers” from his album “Encore”.

In recent years, she has turned to the Latin Pop genre and has continued to act, though now under the stage name “Vida Edit“.
