Phoebe Cates

Phoebe Cates is an American Actress best known for her role in the 1982 comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High“.

She was born in New York City in 1963.

Prior to acting, she worked as a model.

Her film debut was in the 1981 film “Paradise“. She was 17yrs old at the time. The film was a commercial and critical flop in that it was basically a carbon copy of the Brooke Shields film,The Blue Lagoon.

It was 1982′s “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” that really launched her career.

That particular film features one of the more famous swimming pool scenes in movie history…..in my honest opinion. Let me change that, it is THE BEST swimming pool scene……

Special thanks to the band “The Cars” for making the song “Moving in Stereo” so memorable for all these many years….

After “Fast Times”, Phoebe went on to star in such films as Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Private School, I love you to Death, Bodies Rest & Motion, Princess Caraboo, The Anniversary Party, and others.

She met actor Kevin Kline in 1983 while auditioning for a role in the film “The Big Chill”.

The role ended up going to actress Meg Tilly.

Phoebe and Kevin Kline were married in 1989 and have had two children together.

Their son, Owen Kline, is an actor and recently appeared in the film “The Squid and the Whale“.

She has been largely retired from acting on-screen since the early 1990′s but still does occasional stage roles in New York theater.
