Quiet Riot was an American Heavy Metal band popular during the early 1980′s.
The band was formed in 1973 and initially had the name “Mach 1“.
Their first album under the “Quiet Riot” name was released in 1977. (in Japan only)
It was the release of the 1983 album “Metal Health” that put the group on the map.
That album spawned the huge hit “Cum on Feel the Noise” which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in 1983.
It was the first time in history that a Heavy Metal Band had charted a Top-5 single on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.
The group also scored with “Metal Health” (Bang your Head) which peaked at #31 on the Billboard Charts in early 1984.
Their album “Metal Health” became the first Heavy Metal Album in History to rise to #1 on the Billboard Album Charts.
The Album displaced The Police’s hugely successful album “Synchronicity” from the top spot on the Album charts.
“Metal Health’s” success and breakthroughs have made it one of the most important albums in Heavy Metal history.
The group had later hits that charted on the Billboard Rock Charts, but no other Billboard Top-40 singles.
During their peak years, Quiet Riot was:
Kevin DuBrow – Vocals
Carlos Cavazo – Guitar
Rudy Sarzo – Bass
Frankie Banali – Drums
Ozzy Osbourne’s lead guitarist Randy Rhoades was a member of Quiet Riot in the early years but died in 1982, prior to group finding success on the charts.
The group underwent a large number of lineup changes during the 80′s and 90′s but continued performing until late 2007 when lead singer Kevin DuBrow died of an apparent overdose.
The group officially disbanded in 2008.
