Boy Meets Girl was a 1980′s Duo consisting of husband and wife Singer/Songwriters George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam.
Their first album was released in 1985.
That album produced the single “Oh Girl” which peaked at #39 on the Billboard Charts in 1985.
The duo were prolific songwriters and often wrote material for other artists.
They wrote two songs for Whitney Houston that went to #1 on the charts, “How Will I Know?” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)”.
In the late 80′s, they wrote a song titled “Waiting for a Star to Fall” for Whitney Houston to record. Houston rejected the song. Belinda Carlisle recorded the song for inclusion on her “Heaven on Earth” album at the insistence of her record label, but Carlisle also disliked the song and it was not put on the album.
So, Merrill and Rubicam recorded the song themselves. That single would be their biggest hit, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Top-40 charts and #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts in 1988.
The song was featured in the Tom Selleck, Ted Danson 1990 film comedy “Three Men and a Little Lady“.
The couple divorced in the early 2000′s, but continue their musical collaboration together.
Their most recent album as “Boy Meets Girl” was released in 2003.
