The film was originally written with the intention of John Belushi being one of the Ghostbusters.

The part of Louis Tully, played by Rick Moranis, was originally written for John Candy.

The part of Winston Zeddemore was written for Eddie Murphy but he declined the part in order to do Beverly Hills Cop.
