Richard Marx

Richard Marx is an American Singer and Songwriter who had a great deal of success on the US Charts during the late 1980′s and early 1990′s.

As a 17yr old, he ended up moving from Illinois to Los Angeles and wound up singing background vocals on Lionel Richie’s first solo album.

He also did background vocals for other artists including Madonna, and Whitney Houston.

His self-titled debut album was released in 1987.

That album yielded four hit singles. All four singles reached the Top-5 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts. The single “Hold on to the Nights” reached #1 on the charts.

The album reached #1 on the Billboard Album charts in 1988.

His second album, Repeat Offender, was released in 1989. It also went to #1 on the Billboard Album charts.

The first three singles off that album also reached the Top-5 on the charts, making Richard Marx the first artist to chart his first Seven Singles into the Top-5 on the Billboard Charts. Off that second album, the singles “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting” both reached #1 on the Billboard Charts.

To date, he has released 9 Studio Albums in his career.

His solo work earned him Two Grammy Award Nominations.

He won a Grammy Award in 2004 for Song of the Year for “Dance with my Father“, a song he wrote for Luther Vandross.

He has sold over 30 Million albums worldwide in his career.

He continues to record new material and frequently tours the country.

Since 1989, he has been married to Actress/Singer Cynthia Rhodes (Dirty Dancing). They have 3 sons and live outside of Chicago.
