Janis Ian is an American Singer/Songwriter best known for her 1975 classic “At Seventeen“.
The song remains one of the instantly recognizable great ballads of the 1970′s.
The song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Top-40 charts and #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts.
She received a Grammy Award in 1975 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “At Seventeen“.
She has avoided Top-40 One Hit Wonder status due to the fact that she actually had a 1967 single, “Society’s Child“, which peaked at #14 on the Billboard Charts. At the time that she recorded “Society’s Child” she was only 13 yrs old.
Although she had no other Top-40 hits, she did place 6 singles onto the Billboard AC Charts over the course of her career.
She wrote her first song at the age of 12.
She has released nearly 30 albums in the period from 1966-2006.
She continues to perform around the Country.
