The group ABBA was one of the most successful pop groups in music history. They enjoyed tremendous worldwide success during much of the 1970′s and early 1980′s before breaking up in 1983. They will be profiled in greater detail in a seperate post. The two “A’s” in ABBA were the beautiful lead singers,Agnetha Faltskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. After the break-up of ABBA, each had success as solo artists in Sweden and throughout Europe, but very limited solo success here in the US.
Agnetha Faltskog charted her sole hit in 1983 with the song “Can’t shake Loose” which peaked at #29 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.
It was her only solo hit in the US.
She continues to be a popular recording artist throughout Scandinavia and has continued to record new material now nearly 30 years after ABBA broke up.
She still resides in Sweden.
Anni-Frid Lyngstad had a hit with the song “I know there’s something going on” which peaked at #13 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts in 1982.
It was her only solo chart hit in the US.
In 1992, she married a German Prince, giving her the legal title of Her Serene Highness Princess Anni-Frid Synni Reuss, Countess of Plauen.
Her husband died in 1998 and she now lives in Switzerland.
