Twisted Sister

Twisted Sister is a New York City-based American Heavy Metal Band.

The band was originally formed in 1972.

Lead Singer Dee Snider wanted to name the band “THIS“…..but feared the chants of “THIS Band Sucks!” from fans that may not like the band’s looks and sound.

Though good musically, they will sure never win any beauty contests as far as “hair bands” go. These guys, in full make-up, looked like a grotesque gene-pool experiment gone bad…….and that was on a good day…

They considered themselves a “Glam-Rock” band, but in reality it appeared they were just a bunch of New Yorkers who went way overboard on the make-up, while most likely drinking heavily in the dressing room before shows….

Though they have charted a number of songs onto the US Rock Charts, as far as the Billboard top-40 goes, the band is a One-Hit Wonder.

Their lone chart hit was “We’re Not Gonna Take It” which peaked at #21 on the Billboard Top-40 in 1984.

That single featured a video which received heavy airplay on MTV. The band had a follow-up single, “I Wanna Rock“, which was also in heavy rotation on MTV, but the single could climb no higher than #68 on the Billboard Charts.

Twisted Sister has released 7 Studio Albums to date.

The classic lineup of Twisted Sister was:

Dee Snider
Jay Jay French
Eddie Ojeda
Mark Mendoza
A.J. Pero

The screaming Dad in the video is Actor Mark Metcalf, reprising his “Neidermayer” persona from the film classic “Animal House“.

In the mid 1980′s, the band broke up and its members pursued other projects.

The band was reformed in 1997 and is still together today.

It’s most recent Album “A Twisted Christmas” was released in 2006.
