No list of the top One-Hit Wonders of the 1970′s and 1980′s can be complete without the musical stylings of the Starland Vocal Band.
The group is responsible for subjecting the world to the single “Afternoon Delight” which reached #1 on the Billboard Charts in 1976.
Fueled by the success of the single, they won Two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist.
And of course, spurred on by the pressures of being the Best New Artists……they never charted another single onto the Billboard Charts.
The song is best remembered by legenday Anchorman Ron Burgundy…
The group hosted a Variety Show on CBS that lasted all of 6 weeks on the air. The show featured a then-unknown comic named David Letterman. I am sure the Starland Vocal Band Variety Show is listed right at the top of David Letterman’s resume….
The song has lived on in music history as the best single ever in the popular “Sexual Liaisons in the afternoon” musical genre.
As proof, the single was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Have they no shame?……..
