Escape from New York

Another of the “cool” movies of the early 1980′s.

Escape from New York” was released in 1981.

It was directed by John Carpenter who had previously directed films such as “Halloween“, and “The Fog“.

This was star Kurt Russell’s first lead role in an action movie.

Kurt Russell and John Carpenter would work on 4 films together during their careers.

The original choice for the role of Snake Plissken was Tommy Lee Jones.

Only an opening scene in which a character walks past the Statue of Liberty was actually filmed in New York. The rest of the film was shot in LA and St. Louis.

At the time of filming, Director Carpenter was married to Adrienne Barbeau and Kurt Russell was married to co-star Season Hubley.

The female narrator/computer voice is that of Jamie Lee Curtis.

The film was made for just $7 Million dollars and has gone on to become a cult favorite.

Kurt Russell considers it his favorite movie in which he has starred.
