The Ozark Mountain Daredevils are an American Country/Rock Band first formed in Missouri in 1972.
The group is best known the hit single “Jackie Blue” which hit #3 on the Billboard Charts in 1975.
The group did have an earlier chart single in 1974 with the single “If You Wanna Get To Heaven” which peaked at #25 on the Billboard Charts.
They had no other Top-40 singles.
Though they did chart two hits, they are often included on many lists of the greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 1970′s thanks to the success of “Jackie Blue“.
The group released 7 Studio Albums between 1973-1997.
The group was originally called “Cosmic Corn Cob and his Amazing Ozark Mountain Daredevils” but the name was shortened when some group members did not want “Cosmic Corn Cob” in the name.
As I mentioned in another post on this blog, for decades I had always assumed that a female was singing lead on the song “Jackie Blue“. It was in fact, Drummer Larry Lee doing the vocals. Someone out there in the Blogosphere that is in their 40′s or older, please tell me that I am not the only one on the planet that thought a woman was singing this song………pleasssssseeeee.
The group is now in Semi-Retirement but occasionally reunites to do shows together.

Mountain…didn’t they go by that name as well?
Mountain did “Mississippi Queen” and others and was from New York State. They are still together and performing to this day as well.
