If any red-blooded American Male will admit to having watched Women’s Figure Skating during the 1980′s, it will undoubtedly have been for one good reason…
Katarina Witt
In contrast to many of today’s tiny, athletic, pre-pubescent gymnasts on skates that dominate Women’s Figure Skating, Katarina Witt was one of the first to exude pure Beauty and Sexuality.
Ask any guy in the age range of 40-50yrs old who the first woman that comes to their mind when asked to name just one figure skater from the 1980′s……
and I would bet over 90% of them blurt out Katarina Witt!
Katarina Witt was born in Staaken, East Germany in 1965.
She won Olympic Gold Medals for East Germany in 1984 and 1988.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the unification of East and West Germany, she skated for Germany in the 1994 Olympics but finished 7th.
In 1995, she was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
In 1998 she posed for Playboy Magazine. Her issue was only second issue of the magazine to completely sell out. The only other issue with that distinction featured Marilyn Monroe.
She won an Emmy Award in 1990 for the HBO Special “Carmen on Ice“.
She has also worked as an Actress with small parts in films such as “Ronin” and “Jerry Maguire“.
Now a successful Businesswoman, she founded a Production Company, “With Witt Sports and Entertainment” in 1995. Her company markets Figure Skating Productions in Germany and around the Globe. In 2005, she founded the Katarina Witt Foundation to provide aide for children with Disabilities.
